A quick guide to McAfee One Time Password 4.1

McAfee One Time Password or McAfee OTP is a program offered by the world-renowned security services and software provider, McAfee. The program adds an extra layer of protection to the applications and the device by enabling a strong and multi-factor authentication feature.

For this, it merges the username and password (required to access different applications on the system) authentication with a second authentication system, i.e. OTP. The McAfee OTP then confirms the given username and the password with the one that has already been stored in its database. After verifying, it sends the user a One Time password, which is required to be entered to access that particular application.

These OTPs are sent to the users by email, text message to a mobile phone, and voice to a mobile telephone or landline. This program is useful in the organizations, where a great degree of security is required to protect the system and the applications.

Requirements for installing McAfee OTP

Like the McAfee Internet Security or McAfee SiteAdvisor, there are certain system requirements for McAfee OTP that needs to be fulfilled in order to ensure its successful installation on Windows PC. These are:

  • Operating System

For the installation of McAfee OTP, the operating system must support Java VM (Java virtual machine) version 1.6 or later. It is also compatible with Microsoft Windows 2003 R2, Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows 2008 R2, IBM AIX, Linux and Mac OS X. Please note that the McAfee OTP is compatible with both 32-bit as well as 64-bit Windows version. However, if you face any kind of issue while installing this program on your PC, please connect to the McAfee Activate team.

  • Software

At the time of registration or download of the software, make sure you choose the right installer version, which is compatible with your operating system platform.

  • Hardware Server or Virtual Machine

McAfee OTP can be installed on any server in your DMZ or the internet network. Just make sure that you choose the latest hardware server or a VM installed on the top of the latest hardware server.

Also, ensure that the hardware server has a static IP address configured. If you configure this software using the domain name server (DNS) names then the hardware server must be able to reach the DNS server. Hope the information was useful!
